August 4, 2009Standing Up for What You Believe inBy Holly CarliniNorth Platte teens take a stand against tobacco and voice their opinions on the streets.
Monday, teens involved in the No-limits Organization, a Nebraska youth led tobacco prevention movement, co-sponsored a summer activism event on Jeffers Street. They held up posters to cars passing by, which expressed their thoughts on smoking and tobacco. The signs also thanked the state for enacting a no-smoking law this June.
Community Connections Tobacco Free Lincoln County group also co-sponsored the event.
Andrew Parish, No-Limits, says, “My grandpa used to smoke and in my life I've learned a lot and I don't like it and for me this is something I can do for the community and I can teach and tell people that smoking is bad and it should never be done.”
